Welcome!
"Sing Along Ann Arbor" is an open folk-singing group that meets monthly in Ann Arbor.
It is supported by, and hosted at, the
Interfaith Center for Spiritual Growth,
704 Airport Blvd, Suite 1, Ann Arbor (just north of the airport).
We usually meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, from 7pm to 8:30pm:
- Wed, Feb 19 (exception to the 2nd Wednesday rule)
- Wed, Mar 12
- Wed, Apr 9
All skill levels are welcome, and each person is encouraged to lead a song,
request a song, or simply pass — the goal is simply to get us all singing
together.
Many of the songs are taken from the
Rise Up Singing or
Rise Again books, but
any song with a teachable chorus is welcome.
We are particularly delighted to have the irrepressible
Matt Watroba (top right) as our song leader -- the man
who has been called "the Pete Seeger of the Midwest".
Attendance is free, but small donations are encouraged.
Other Resources
There are many other opportunities for singing in the Ann Arbor area:
- The Ark is one of the best folk music
venues in the country. Many of the artists encourage singing along
(on the chorus).
- There is also a monthly "Shape Note" sing,
hosted at the Ark, on 2nd Sundays,
from 1-4 pm. Contact cawolfe@umich.edu.
- The Ann Arbor Morris dance team has been hosting a monthly pub-sing (at real pubs!)
for many years.
It is currently on hiatus, but follow the Facebook page,
and if enough people are interested, it will restart.
- The Ann Arbor District Library hosts a monthly "Folk Song Jam Along".
Dates and locations vary: see the AADL Events pages.
- Charles Roth hosts an open folk-sing on 3rd Thursdays at 7pm,
at his home in SE Ann Arbor. Contact him at
wchasroth@gmail.com.
